Nam art

This is the last art I ever did for Marvel right before I moved to
LA and dove into the animation business full time.

.the hair of the one there in the center reminds me of marco rossi a bit. http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/0/4737/391157-marcorossi_large.jpg

HEy Bob, beautiful stuff man. I'm curious if you remember, did you use any photo ref on this piece, or live models, or was just out of your head?

That is fantastic. I love its mixture of human anatomy and slight cartoony exaggeration. Keeps it in tune with the tone of the book. I'd love to see an animated film based on this. Beautiful.

Thanks VJESCI.

Hey Danny,
Nothing exact. I had lots of Vietnam era ref like jeeps helicopters guns soldiers etc. The drawings are out of my head though.

Thanks Weirdo.
Well this is nothing compared with the work of Michael Golden. In my mind he is one of the best 2 or 3 artists in the medium. yes it would be cool to animate something like this.

Who are the other two artists? I'm thinking one of them is John Buscema.

This is so awesome! I love how loose the style seems, yet so tightly wound into a cohesive illustration. Nothing so simply fascinating as a broken line with a purpose.

Beautiful. Good old Micheal Golden was your stylistic parameter for the Nam,, right? I love the first few issues of the Micronauts, Golden's work still holds up. I've an interesting friend who walked toward the siberian wilderness in northern Mongolia to see see if he could make it back alive. Many years ago it was Golden's demeanor at the SD con, probably in the late 70's, which discouraged him from pursuing comic art, Golden was so dismal. I related that experience to another friend, and the latter replied that Golden's attitude had improved becuase he killed the man who cuckholded him! These men are alive.

I like how it's almost a snapshot of life...what I mean is, this is a typical day for soldiers in that war. Just four men stuck in a dead end job.

Yes Weirdo. And Alex Toth, Jordi bernet, Moebius...

Hi BroGrimm. Yeah the idea is to always draw and ink with the same kind of energy.

Hey K. Nacht. Interesting story to say the least.
Mike G. is an intense guy for sure. he couldn't do what he does if he wasn't. He is a true genius.

Thanks Zane. Thats the feeling I wanted to convey. It was important to make it seem very realistic and yet caricature the men and their expressions and features.

Hello Bob, I stumbled across your blogspot after google searching images for 'The Nam'"...absolutely the best comic book ever...I had almost every issue when I was a kid. Great stuff! Funny I should come across your work and am able to, at the very least, send you a message! I would have died for this opportunity years ago...Anyways, I am on blogger as well: thenewyorkamerican.blogspot.com : and i am in the process of creating some original content, which in turn prompted me to perform my google search on the nam'. I am considering writing a solid piece on some Marvel comic books that I think would make great movies... #1 is The Nam'....what's your take?? - ryan
